Rotary dryer is called the work horse in the range of drying equipment. This is one of the ruggest equipment used for handling small to large feed rates from medium to high temperature operations for continuous duty.

Hot air flows through the rotating shell. The wet material present in the rotary shell is lifted and showered in this hot flowing air. This intimate contact results in drying of the product. The rotary dryers are available with co-current or counter current air flow patterns depending upon the properties of the product being dried.

Whenever the heat duty is very high, the additional energy can be supplied by steam passing through tubes fixed on the rotating shell. This is called Steam Tube Rotary Dryer. Gentle drying is possible in this type of a dryer.
